Annotation

Photographer Miro Švolík is a pivotal figure of so called Slovak new wave, which was a photographic movement, that stormed Prague photographic scene in the eighties. The resolution with which they entered photographic field was mainly related to a change of perception of photographic medium influenced by post-modernistic era. Post modernism was preceded by strong currents of documentary and conceptual work that addressed social and political reality of normalisation period.  Post modernistic photography of the eighties is stripping of all it’s predecessor political commentary. It’s opposing seventies’ photography in both content and formula. Simply said; photography wanted to become something different at that point. Being different meant not to comment tangible reality around us but to create it’s own world full of stories, myths, ideas and visions.
